Thiago Alcantara dreams of returning to Barcelona, but Jurgen Klopp may want to retain the 32-year-old in his squad.

According to Sport, Thiago Alcantara could think of a possible return to Barcelona. Any move back to Catalonia is not straightforward as the Spanish side are still lingering over financial uncertainties, while Liverpool are also thinking about the next course of action.

Jurgen Klopp has a testing period ahead in this transfer window, as all his plans need drastic changing. The German boss had hoped to strengthen the midfield by removing deadwood and adding quality stars. Liverpool were swift in letting go of players not deemed good enough and bringing the required quality.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita departed after injury-hit careers in Merseyside, while James Milner also left to make way for the next batch. Meanwhile, Klopp has signed his key target Alexis Mac Allister and will have been pleased with the arrival of Dominik Szoboszlai.

In the last few weeks, the Saudi Arabian league has disrupted his plans, as Fabinho is close to leaving for Al Ittihad. At the same time, Jordan Henderson has agreed on a lucrative deal with Al Ettifaq. If Thiago Alcantara also departs, Liverpool will lose massive experience from their squad.

Klopp will have to make another concerted effort in the market to bring new stars as replacements, as he would need some experienced heads in the middle. Meanwhile, the German will hope for Thiago’s stay amid links to Galatasaray.

The 46-cap Spanish international has already rejected overtures of Saudi Arabia, as he might want to stay put in the continent. Meanwhile, the report insists, Thiago dreams of a return to Barcelona. The idea may appeal to the midfielder, considering he entered the final year of his deal and may want to end his injury-hit seasons here.

However, any move back to Catalonia will have complications, as Barcelona are not flush with funds to make a move happen. They needed a midfielder in the centre but have already signed former academy star Oriel Romeu.

Thiago would bring the experience needed after losing the likes of Sergio Busquets, but the club are wary. However, if Barcelona ends up selling Franck Kessie for a massive profit, the 32-year-old Liverpool star could become a viable and feasible option for the Catalans to consider.
