Tottenham Hotspur are interested in the services of 25-year-old Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz amidst uncertainty around Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s future.
According to a report by Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are keen on having Douglas Luiz in their ranks ahead of next season. They are looking for a potential replacement for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who could be on his way to Atletico Madrid and have their eyes on the 25-year-old.
Diego Simeone’s men have been interested in the Spurs midfielder for a while now. The Argentine manager is keen on bolstering his midfield ahead of next season, and he is a big admirer of the Danish international.
Simeone believes he could be the perfect fit for his style of play and has asked the board to push for his services. The Colchoneros have been in talks with Tottenham of late. While Spurs have shown no intentions of selling the 27-year-old, the report suggests that he could be on his way out for the right price.
Ange Postecoglou has started preparing for life without the Danish international. And, the Australian manager has his eyes set on Douglas Luiz. The 25-year-old has been in sensational touch over the past few seasons and could be a great replacement for Hojbjerg.
Last season, the Brazil international featured in a total of 40 matches and he was on the pitch for over 3,100 minutes. The 25-year-old managed to contribute towards 15 goals. He scored seven goals and created another six for his teammates.
Luiz is versatile enough to feature as a central midfielder as well as a defensive midfielder. And, he can surely fill the void left by Hojbjerg if he ends up leaving for the Spanish giants.
Meanwhile, the Brazilian international has three years left on his deal, and he is very important to Unai Emery. The Spanish manager has no plans of letting him leave at this point in time. However, things could change if the right offer arrives.
While talks for Hojbjerg’s transfer to Atletico Madrid are progressing slowly, there is a real possibility of a deal taking place in the near future. Even the player is keen on making the move to the Spanish giants. If Simeone manages to land the Spurs star at the club, Postecoglou will be left with no other options than to go all out for the 25-year-old.
