Manchester United are closing in on the signature of Atalanta star Rasmus Hojlund

According to The Daily Mail, Premier League giants Manchester United are closing in on the summer transfer of Atalanta star Rasmus Hojlund.

The Danish striker is one of Serie A’s breakout stars from 2022-23 and is tipped for a brilliant future in the game. Just 20, Hojlund has the world at his feet and could develop into an elite goalscorer for the upcoming decade.

Erik ten Hag’s side have agreed personal terms with Hojlund, with the player also keen to make the switch to Old Trafford. However, Manchester United and Atalanta are yet to reach a common consensus and are a tad apart in the youngster’s valuation.

With the Andre Onana deal more or less wrapped up, Holund is now the Red Devils’ top target. A striker is certainly on the agenda with Randal Kolo Muani also being monitored. French champions Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on Hojlund and could prove to be an obstacle in the Red Devils’ path.

It is no secret that the Red Devils need a goalscorer heading into the 2023-24 season. Wout Weghorst’s loan hasn’t been made permanent, while Anthony Martial continues to struggle with injuries. As things stand, Marcus Rashford remains the club’s biggest source of goals and something needs to be done about it.

Hojlund is now ready to leave Atalanta this summer and undertake a new challenge. Atalanta previously wanted €100m for the youngster’s services but are now ready to take a deal worth €70 million plus another €10 million in bonuses. The ball is now in Manchester United’s court to present an appreciable offer.

A major obstacle in the Red Devils’ path is the need to adhere to FFP. There remains the possibility that they will only be able to move for the Dane after selling a few of their fringe players. Any hope they had of offer players plus cash for Hojlund has found few takers in Italy.

Hojlund has shown excellent potential but remains an unpolished diamond for now. His ability to get into the right places and make good decisions in the box makes him an asset. After all, Erling Haaland has shown that you don’t need to be too fashionable to be a reliable goalscorer.
