Arsenal are keeping close tabs on Martin Baturina, with Dinamo Zagreb’s valuation of the player close to £10-15 million.
According to Express Sport, Arsenal are monitoring Martin Baturina as a move could materialise in this window. The Dinamo Zagreb attacking midfielder is not seen as a priority this summer, but the Gunners could pounce on an opportunity depending on sales.
Arsenal made some solid moves early in this window as they travelled with a near-complete side for their US pre-season tour. Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice arrived recently to join Kai Havertz, with their outlay totalling £208 million, including add-ons.
That is a considerable outlay; from now on, any new arrivals may depend on sales of fringe stars. The latest report stated Arsenal were keen on Mohammed Kudus, but that too might hinge on the money they can raise through outgoings.
The Kudus links show Mikel Arteta wants a versatile attacker who can slot into midfield and find his way into the attacking third. The Ajax star can play centrally and become a backup to Bukayo Saka, with his high productivity the reason Arsenal are keen.
Meanwhile, they also held an interest in Xavi Simons. But the attacking midfielder is re-joined PSG and leaving on a loan deal to RB Leipzig. Arteta might view an opening for such a profile, which makes sense for their links to Dinamo Zagreb’s Martin Baturina.
The 20-year-old midfield technician had a prolific season with six goals and 13 assists in the Croatian top division. Arsenal have kept tabs on Baturnia ever since they went to watch former defensive target Josip Sutalo.
They have since signed Timber, who has a profile that offers much more to this Arsenal side than the Croatian defender would. Back to Baturina, and the Gunners could ponder making a move if the conditions are right. Dinamo Zagreb reportedly value the 20-year-old between £10-15 million but could accept a lower fee.
He has shown flashes of his talent last season, and bringing Arsenal’s interest shows the player must have the goods to succeed at the top level. The Gunners do not see Baturina as an immediate need but could pounce if there is a solid market opportunity in the next few weeks.
