Tottenham could have inched closer to signing defensive target Victor Nelsson after making a ‘compelling’ offer, including Davinson Sanchez.
According to Enson Haber, Galatasaray could accept Tottenham’s latest offer for Victor Nelsson. The report suggests Spurs made a ‘compelling’ proposal to sign the Danish defender, which included €15 million in cash and centre-back Davinson Sanchez.
There have been plenty of rumblings around Tottenham’s transfer window plans, with many reports pointing at the club wanting to bring in a few central defenders. After strengthening the squad with key players Gugleirmo Vicario and James Maddison, the club have remained focused on bolstering the back line.
Davinson Sanchez remains out of the picture as Spurs would like to sell the Colombian. Despite ongoing talks with Barcelona, there is no news on Clement Lenglet’s return to the club. Apart from those two, Tottenham remained linked with several other top-draw options, including Galatasaray’s Victor Nelsson.
The 24-year-old Danish star had expressed his desire for a bigger challenge after helping Galatasaray to the Turkish league title. Tottenham were a serious suitor right from the start of this window and had even made an offer worth €19 million.
Galatasaray wanted a fee around Nelsson’s €25 million release clause. Spurs have since shown reluctance until the Turkish side expressed an interest in Sanchez. The Colombian was reportedly included in a bid by Tottenham, which also had a cash offer of €15 million.
The report claims Galatasaray could accept this ‘compelling’ offer as they are keen to bring Sanchez in this window. The values may also match for the Colombian defender, for whom Tottenham paid €42 million in 2018, although the centre-back never established himself here.
With Tottenham interested in Nelsson, a move could materialise, signalling to end the pursuit of another possible target. Spurs have been heavily linked with Bundesliga stars Micky van de Ven and Edmond Tapsoba, although there are chances at least one of those could still join in.
Both those deals for the Bundesliga defenders have dragged on, and there is no agreement with either Wolfsburg or Bayer Leverkusen. Hence, Tottenham could feel the need to bring someone quickly and may have narrowed the focus on Nelsson to join them.
