Chelsea have entered the chase for 18-year-old Japanese wonderkid Keisuke Goto, with several other high-profile sides chasing him.
According to Daily Mail, Chelsea have an interest in signing 18-year-old Keisuke Goto. The Jubilo Iwata youngster features on the list of some prominent European sides, with the Blues now set to try their chances at signing him.
Chelsea are increasingly considering signing some of the best talents from around the globe. After a series of potential arrivals from South America, the Blues keep a close eye on developments elsewhere.
Since the club’s takeover by new American owners last summer, Chelsea have been the biggest spender in world football. Meanwhile, they have focused heavily on youngsters as their projects demand plenty of reinforcements for the future.
The plan seems attractive enough for plenty of youngsters in most age groups. Santos star Angelo Gabriel became the latest to join Chelsea in this regard. The Brazilian youngster joins Andrey Santos of Vasco Da Gama. But others like David Datro Fofana, Gabriel Slonina, Carney Chukwuemeka and Omari Hutchison are also part of this young core.
They also recently agreed on a move for Kendry Paez, the highly rated Ecuadorian youngster, who may not join immediately but in a few years. Now, Chelsea have set sights on 18-year-old Japanese wonderkid Keisuke Goto.
The 6 foot 3 striker is only 18 and has already shown signs of becoming a striker in the likeness of Harry Kane. He has already been chased by some of the top clubs in the continent. The report suggests Ajax, Feyenoord, Sevilla and West Ham United are chasing the forward.
However, Chelsea’s entry could trump other suitors out of the water for their recent surge in signing young stars. They could lay out a plan for Goto and offer him a shorter route into the first team. At 18, he would want to start playing senior football regularly, considering his smashing debut for Jubilo Iwata, scoring twice in that game.
Chelsea will leave this chase on the back burner as they focus on bringing in a top-class midfielder and a striker during this window. The latest injury to Wesley Fofana could also force them into the market for a new centre-back.
