Napoli have established contacts to sign Giovani Lo Celso and are ready to make a substantial contract offer for the Tottenham midfielder.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Napoli are in contact with Giovani Lo Celso about a transfer this summer. The Serie A champions are keen on the Argentine midfielder, who no longer features in Tottenham’s plans ahead of the new season.

Napoli have a big task at hand to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season. They need to keep the group competitive and strengthen it with smart incomings. Aurelio De Laurentiis has managed to keep hold of their main attackers despite strong interest from the Premier League sides.

The Serie A champions did lose key defender Kim Min-jae to Bayern Munich but could bring in a proper replacement, given they have the funds following the sale. The Partenopei are keen on signing Max Kilman from Wolvesm and have already seen a massive bid rejected. Meanwhile, new manager Rudi Garcia wants a new midfielder to replace Tanguy Ndombele.

Napoli may not take to signing the Frenchman permanently but could look at his Tottenham teammate Giovani Lo Celso as an option. The Serie A giants are keen on signing the midfielder, as Spurs are open to selling a player they paid €32 million to sign.

The Serie A giants are reportedly working to offer him a good pay package. But they will not exceed their set salary cap. Napoli have already contacted Tottenham to discuss Lo Celso, which could then allow them to hold talks to determine a transfer fee.

With two years left on his deal at Spurs, Lo Celso has no place in their plans. He had spent the last 18 months away from the club and played for Villarreal on loan. Former club Real Betis are also interested in the Argentine star, and there is some admiration from former Villarreal boss Unai Emery over at Aston Villa.

Napoli may have the advantage of luring the player, as they were also interested. But. Lo Celso will make the final decision based on where he gets to play a prominent role in the coming years. The 27-year-old has plenty left in the tank and has been a consistent performer for Villarreal in the last 18 months.

Tottenham hope to recoup a significant sum of the €32 million investment in the Argentine midfielder. Interested clubs know of their position and will look to pay less. Napoli have a shot as they can offer him Champions League football, but the lure of returning to Real Betis could also tempt the midfielder.
