Chelsea are pushing hard to acquire the services of 21-year-old Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are keen on having Moises Caicedo in their ranks before the start of next season. The Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder has been on their radar for a while now and they have made significant progress in their pursuit of the 21-year-old’s signatures.
The Blues’ major focus during the ongoing transfer window has been on offloading players. They have sold quite a few of their senior players who were not a part of their new manager Mauricio Pochettino’s plan moving ahead.
The London club have managed to accumulate a significant amount and are now looking to sign players that can help them revive themselves. Their priority target at this point in time is to sign Brighton star Caicedo.
The 21-year-old midfielder has been on the radar of multiple clubs over the past six months. Arsenal were one of the teams interested in his services. However, they decided to go ahead with Declan Rice and are on the verge of completing his transfer.
With the Gunners out of the race, Chelsea are in a comfortable position. However, time is running out and they want to ensure his arrival before the start of the 2023-24 season. Having sold N’Golo Kante, Pochettino’s team are in desperate need of a new defensive midfielder. And, they believe Caicedo is the one who can fill the big void left by the French World Cup winner.
The Brighton midfielder had penned down a new deal a few months back and his current contract runs until the summer of 2027. As a result, the Seagulls have all the power on the negotiation table and they are not willing to do a deal below the £100 million mark.
The Blues had reportedly made a bid in the region of £70 million but it won’t be enough according to Romano. But, he believes that the deal is now moving. Both clubs are involved in discussing the amount of the fixed fee. While the negotiations are still on, there is optimism around the Blues camp that they can get it done in the near future.
