Tottenham Hotspur are keen on having 24-year-old Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba in their ranks ahead of next season.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur have identified Edmond Tapsoba as their priority target as they look to strengthen their defence before the start of the 2023/24 season. While they also have their eyes on Micky van de Ven, their priority is to acquire the services of the Burkina Faso international.
Tapsoba came through the ranks at Vitória S.C. before making the move to Bayer Leverkusen in the winter of 2020. The 24-year-old centre-back has gone from strength to strength over the past few seasons. He has established himself as the mainstay of the German club.
He was in exceptional touch last season and hardly put a foot wrong. The Burkina Faso international made a total of 47 appearances last season and was on the pitch for over 4,000 minutes. He even contributed towards four goals.
His exceptional performances of late have not gone unnoticed. The 24-year-old still has three years left on his deal but he could still be on the move in the ongoing summer. However, Leverkusen will have all the powers on the negotiation table given there are still a few years left on Tapsoba’s contract.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur are keen on having the 24-year-old in their ranks. Spurs were poor defensively last season and their new manager Ange Postecoglou wants to ensure they reinforce their defence before heading into next season.
Tottenham have identified Micky van de Ven and Edmond Tapsoba as two potential targets to strengthen their backline. While they are actively monitoring Van de Ven, their priority is to sign the Bayer Leverkusen centre-back.
Despite the 24-year-old being their priority target, they are yet to place a bid for his services. Spurs are currently in negotiations with the German club and a potential deal might depend on the price that Leverkusen demand.
If Tapsoba is beyond their budget, they could push for Van de Ven. As a result, they have been in touch with Wolfsburg. With talks for both players progressing, there should be a bit more clarity in the near future.
