Daichi Kamada was reportedly offered to Tottenham and Newcastle United as his Bosman move to AC Milan fell through.
According to 90 Min, Tottenham and Newcastle United could consider signing Daichi Kamada on a free transfer. The 26-year-old midfielder’s prospective move to AC Milan fell through due to changes at the Italian side, with the Premier League duo some of the teams his representatives offered the player.
For weeks, reports pointed to AC Milan winning the race for highly acclaimed Japanese midfielder Daichi Kamada. The attacking midfielder, with 16 goals in all competition for Eintracht Frankfurt last season, was a brilliant market opportunity many clubs sought.
However, interest in the 26-year-old midfielder went cold after Milan sped ahead and sought an agreement. With Kamada signing his part of the agreement, the Italian side have since pulled out of the transfer. Speculation pointed towards the changes at the executive level, with Paolo Maldini’s departure being the most important reason.
With the 16-goals star available in the market, there are several clubs to whom agents offered him. Kamada’s representatives have sounded out a potential transfer to Napoli and Inter Milan in Italy. They have also notified Tottenham and Newcastle United of his availability.
Previously Liverpool had an interest in the Japan international. However, they have since spent big on Dominik Szoboszlai, which would take them away from Kamada. Tottenham and Newcastle United got mentioned, and both sides could look for a good market opportunity.
Newcastle United, in particular, had been keen to sign an attacking midfielder. They lost out on the race to sign James Maddison, who joined Tottenham in the last few weeks. The Magpies were also angling for a move for Szoboszlai before his move to Liverpool.
The Magpies are searching for a new option but may consider the Kamada idea more closely. The 26-year-old midfielder has the attributes to succeed here, but there are questions on whether he fits the profile that Eddie Howe seeks. For now, Newcastle will focus on bringing Harvey Barnes as their next attacking target and may look at the 26-year-old midfielder later.
Tottenham may not need a new attacking midfielder unless Ange Postecoglu decides to play Maddison as a wide forward. Spurs had needed an attacking midfielder in their ranks for some time and could reignite their previous interest in Kamada.
Tottenham may also see the value in the free transfer, as they must otherwise pay a huge sum to get someone of the 26-year-old midfielder’s calibre. Hence, a move to the Premier League may become a possibility for Kamada, but the competition could get intense if many clubs come into the picture.
