Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have their eyes set on 23-year-old Torino centre-back Perr Schuurs as they look to bolster their defence.
According to a report by Football Insider, Liverpool are keen on having Perr Schuurs in their ranks ahead of next season. The 23-year-old centre-back has done a great job in his very first season at Torino and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed.
The Dutch international was a part of Ajax before making a move to Torino ahead of the 2022-23 season for a reported fee of £7 million. The 23-year-old hasn’t looked back since making the move.
He made a total of 36 appearances last season and even contributed towards three goals. The former Ajax defender was in the starting XI in 32 out of the 36 matches. While he is not yet a finished product, he surely has a lot of potential and has been putting in consistent performances for the Italian club.
His contract with Torino runs until the summer of 2026 but Schuurs could still be on his way to Liverpool in the ongoing summer. The Merseyside club are keen on having him in their ranks and they surely have the financial strength to prise him away from the Italian club.
Klopp’s priority heading into the summer market was to strengthen his midfield. And, he has already done that by signing Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. While they are still pushing for other midfielders, the Reds have also started to look for a new centre-back.
Ever since they completed the signing of Szboszlai, they have been slowly making moves to sign a new defender. The Merseyside club have their eyes on Goncalo Inacio of Sporting CP and Micky van de Ven of Wolfsburg. While the arrival of either of them will surely strengthen the Liverpool backline, they will have to spend a decent amount to land them at the club.
Meanwhile, Schuurs is a much cheaper option and he surely ticks a lot of boxes for the German manager. And, Liverpool consider him to be a young player who can develop into a world-class defender. As a result, they are ready to prioritise the signing of the 23-year-old Dutch international.
