Manchester United are aware of the situation with Sergino Dest, but Erik ten Hag may not feel the need to sign him, and other teams are interested.

According to Dean Jones via Give Me Sport, Manchester United have monitored the situation od Sergino Dest well before the window opened. The Barcelona star has no future at the club and seems likely to depart. But the Red Devils are unlikely to make an effort.

Sergino Dest’s early promise at Ajax has steadily faded following a few seasons of dismal performances. The USMNT international, who Barcelona signed for €21 million, has failed to live up to expectations as he returns to Catalonia following a disappointing loan spell at AC Milan.

After a sub-par campaign, Milan did not activate the €21 million buy option in his loan deal. The USMNT international managed to play only 14 times across all competitions, totalling 632 minutes of action on the pitch.

Barcelona want to get rid of the right back, as they feel he might still bring in some funds. The Catalans do not rate him nor plan to re-integrate Dest into their plans. They will surely hope there is considerable interest in him, with a few Premier League sides keeping tabs on his situation. At one point, it even seemed Union Berlin would secure his services.

Crystal Palace were keen earlier, but the question remains if they are ready to make a move. They could make do with a player of his profile who needs a different environment. Selhurst Park could allow him the platform to reinvent himself. But any move will depend on whether Barcelona are open to reducing the asking price.

The report discusses Fulham’s interest, with Marco Silva reportedly keen on the player. However, the big story here is that Manchester United had kept monitoring the full-back with the view of making a move in this window.

These links cannot come as a surprise, given Erik ten Hag’s knowledge of his former Ajax charge. Second would be the links to many right-backs Manchester United had since January as talks of replacing Aaron Wan-Bissaka picked momentum.

In truth, Manchester United are not focusing on a new right back at the moment, but on other areas. They desperately need a new striker and a midfielder. And then, Dean Jones pointed towards their previous interest in the Barcelona star but claimed the Red Devils would not make any move.

For now, ten Hag continues to push towards bringing goalkeeper Andre Onana to the club. Manchester United could then switch their attention towards a new striker with many names, including Rasmus Hojlund and Goncalo Ramos, linked. They may have needed a new right-back but might keep their current options.
