Barcelona will not pursue 22-year-old Brazilian full-back Vanderson this summer, with a move in the 2024 summer transfer window possible.
According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Vanderson is the subject of interest from Barcelona. But the Catalan giants do not have the funds to pursue the 22-year-old in the ongoing transfer window. So they will launch the offensive for him in 2024, with the AS Monaco full-back ready to wait for them for another year.
Vanderson spent his formative years in his homeland before graduating from the Gremio youth setup. A marauding full-back, he rose to prominence in Brazil before well-known clubs came clamouring for his signature. And amid widespread interest in his services, the Brazilian full-back joined AS Monaco 18 months ago.
Since then, Vanderson’s stock has risen further, and he has come leaps and bounds at Stade Louis II. The 22-year-old has been a regular for AS Monaco, making 61 appearances while chipping in with three goals and eight assists. And the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with Barcelona among his prospective suitors.
Barcelona also showed interest in the young right-back before he joined AS Monaco. But they were too late to launch the offensive, so he picked the Ligue 1 outfit as his destination. However, the Catalan club’s interest in the player has not waned, and he still features on Barcelona’s radar.
The continued interest in securing Vanderson’s services is understandable, considering the long-standing right-back issues. The reigning La Liga champions have struggled for stability in the position since Dani Alves’s first spell ended. And the problem was so rampant that Xavi Hernandez had to use Jules Kounde, a centre-back, as the first-choice right-back this past season.
So it behoves Barcelona to invest in a young right-back who can be a long-term solution for them. Vanderson’s name has thus emerged as an option to bolster Xavi’s right-back options. But the Catalan giants do not have the funds to launch the offensive for him this summer. Instead, Barcelona will pursue him in the 2024 summer transfer window.
The 22-year-old, for his part, is ready to wait for Barcelona for another year and will continue at AS Monaco in the upcoming season. Meanwhile, Ivan Fresneda will likely bolster Barcelona’s right-back options this summer. And it will be interesting to see if Vanderson, who Deco rates highly, still remains a target a year later.
