AC Milan have reportedly made an improved second offer for Christian Pulisic in an effort to try and convince Chelsea to sell the USMNT star.
According to The Athletic, AC Milan have submitted a second increased offer of €22 million for Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic. The 24-year-old is increasingly close to joining the Italian giants as the Blues have already turned down one bid from Milan for the USMNT winger, which was around half his €25 million price tag.
Although Lyon made a bid totaling €25 million, which is “more in line” with the figure the Blues are hoping to receive, Pulisic is thought to prefer a move to Milan and is willing to turn down the French side in order to secure a move to San Siro. In fact, Milan already have an agreement with the USMNT international on personal terms.
Pulisic is part of a mass clear-out at Stamford Bridge to raise funds this summer, with the likes of N’Golo Kante, Kai Havertz, Edouard Mendy, Mateo Kovacic, and Kalidou Koulibaly already departing the west London club in this transfer window.
Mason Mount’s £55 million departure to Manchester United have also been confirmed earlier today, while Hakim Ziyech remains in talks with Saudi Arabian clubs. Pulisic could be another to watch, as it seems he’s really keen to get this potential move to Milan, who have been long-time admirers of his profile and tried to loan him in January over the line early this summer window.
Once regarded as a top prospect, Pulisic made a promising start to his career at Chelsea after he joined in a €64 million deal in 2018 from German side Borussia Dortmund, but has since been hampered by injuries.
Over the years, his game-time at Stamford Bridge has become increasingly limited following the attacking arrivals, and he has fallen well down the pecking order with Mykhailo Mudryk, Raheem Sterling, Noni Madueke, David Datro Fofana, Christopher Nkunku, and Nicolas Jackson all likely ahead of him in terms of competition in attacking areas.
In total, Pulisic has made 145 appearances across four seasons for the Blues, during which he was a member of the Chelsea side that won the Champions League in 2021. He also helped lift the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup later that year.
There’s no denying that Pulisic possesses some fantastic individual qualities, which often shine through whenever he represents his country. However, his club career has stagnated in the past year in Chelsea colours.
At 24 years old, Pulisic still has plenty of time left to start a new chapter in his club career elsewhere and try to live up to the potential that most see in him as he hopes to revive his career at the San Siro after this underwhelming spell in England.
