Tottenham offering €10 million to sign Clement Lenglet

Barcelona will now demand €15 million to part ways with 28-year-old French defender Clement Lenglet, who will likely join Tottenham Hotspur.

A report by SPORT, as relayed by Sport Witness, has revealed Barcelona’s latest media-speculated price for Clement Lenglet. The Catalan giants want €15 million in exchange for the 28-year-old defender. Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur will likely offer around €10 million for him. And Joan Laporta has insisted that the centre-back will join the North London club this summer.

Clement Lenglet is at a crossroads in his career. The French international did not have a fulfilling loan stint with Tottenham Hotspur this past season. While he featured regularly, his performance levels were sub-par. And he has now returned to Barcelona after the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

The 28-year-old made 35 appearances for Tottenham while chipping in with one goal and two assists. But Lenglet’s Barcelona future is non-existent, with the Blaugrana ready to cash in on him in the summer transfer window. And Tottenham will likely secure his services in a permanent deal ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Recent reports have claimed that Tottenham will look to pull off a bargain deal for the Frenchman. But the media’s speculation of Barcelona’s asking price keeps throwing up new figures every few days. And there have been murmurs of valuations of €5 million and €10 million, with Tottenham offering a lower sum every time.

The latest speculation suggests Barcelona will look to recoup €15 million from Lenglet’s sale. Meanwhile, Tottenham will look to secure his services for a base fee of €10 million. And despite the difference of €5 million, the report claims an agreement between Barcelona and Tottenham is close. It is not surprising that Barcelona will be eager to get rid of the 28-year-old quickly.

The Catalan giants remain in financial turmoil and cannot hope to welcome new signings without offloading several players. In particular, Barcelona’s wage book poses a problem as they need to lighten the salary mass. So it will be interesting to see if the reigning La Liga champions are ready to accept €10 million.

Meanwhile, reports have claimed that Tottenham and Lenglet have an agreement in principle on personal terms. And a deal between the North London club and Barcelona should conclude in a few days. In addition, Joan Laporta remains confident about Barcelona’s ability to conclude a deal for the Frenchman soon.
