Liverpool will not sign Ryan Gravenberch this summer

Liverpool have been linked with a move for 21-year-old Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, although a deal looks unlikely.

Reputed German journalist Florian Plettenberg has confirmed that Liverpool have backed out of the race to sign 21-year-old Dutch midfielder Ryan Gravenberch from Bundesliga club Bayern Munich this summer.

Gravenberch has struggled for regular game time at Bayern Munich since arriving from Ajax, and he needs to leave in order to play regularly. A move to Liverpool would have been ideal for the talented young midfielder. But it seems that the Reds are pursuing other targets.

Liverpool are determined to improve the midfield this summer, and they have already signed the likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. They are thought to be keeping tabs on Khephren Thuram and Romeo Lavia.

It would be interesting to see if Gravenberch can hold down a regular starting spot under new Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel. The 31-year-old midfielder clearly struggled to make an impression under former boss, Julian Nagelsmann.

There is no doubt that the former Ajax midfielder is extremely talented and has a big future ahead of him. He could develop into a key player for the Bundesliga club if he can regain his confidence and sharpness.

Regular football will be the key to his development next season. So it remains to be seen how the situation develops. He could have been a useful acquisition for Liverpool. Working under a top-class coach like Jurgen Klopp would have been outstanding for the player’s development.

The Liverpool manager has a proven track record of nurturing talented young players into established superstars. It will be interesting to see if any other club is willing to make a move for the 21-year-old midfielder this summer.

He was highly rated during his time at Ajax, and a number of clubs kept tabs on him. Given his situation at the Allianz Arena, his suitors might feel that the player could be available for a knockdown price this summer.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich are lacking in depth in the midfield unit despite signing Konrad Laimer. So it would be surprising if they decided to weaken the squad without bringing in quality midfielders first. Players like Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich have been linked with a move away from the club as well, although the latter will unlikely leave.
