Erik ten hag has reportedly given Andre Onana assurances about doing all he can to sign the goalkeeper in this window.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness, Erik ten Hag has reassured Andre Onana regarding a possible transfer to Old Trafford. A deal seemed improbable as Manchester United are still threading on uncertain shores due to their ownership status and perceived lack of funds. But a first offer might go in this week for the Cameroonian.

Andre Onana silenced doubters with a stellar season with Inter Milan, helping them to the Champions League final. After arriving under a cloud of a former doping ban, the former Ajax star had not lost his touch with the game.

As Inter Milan made a solid decision to trust the keeper and sign him on a free transfer, the time may have come for the Cameroonian to depart the club after a year. As reported by reputed journalist Alfredo Pedulla, the Serie A giants reportedly want a €50 million fixed fee plus some add-ons.

Manchester United were thought to have made a verbal proposal worth €45 million plus another €5 million in add-ons, which Inter Milan might have rejected out of hand. With finances somewhat crippling Erik ten Hag’s plans to bring a new No.1, there’s no clarity on their top target.

Manchester United were linked with Justin Bijlow of Feyenoord as a cheaper alternative. The Dutch international is under consideration, but Onana remains the firm first choice option. Ten Hag has reportedly given the €50 million-rated keeper reassurances the club will do all it can to get the deal done.

Any move is nowhere near close as the report claims Manchester United director of football David Harrison and Inter Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio recently met to discuss the transfer. As mentioned earlier, Inter Milan are adamant about their €50 million plus add-ons asking price, and the Red Devils are not far away.

Manchester United could make their first offer for the €50 million-rated keeper this week to begin formal negotiations with Inter Milan. Whether they go close to Onana’s asking price remains the question. But Ten Hag’s reported reassurances certainly point at the Cameroonian as their preferred choice to replace David De Gea.
