Tottenham Hotspur have submitted a lowball bid to sign 28-year-old French defender Clement Lenglet from Barcelona this summer.
According to a report by Mundo Deportivo, as relayed by Sport Witness, Clement Lenglet remains a target for Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window. But the North London club will not go over the top to sign the 28-year-old. And they have submitted a low offer worth €5 million to secure his services.
Clement Lenglet has reached a crossroads in his career after plummeting to the bottom of the pecking order in the Barcelona defence. The French international spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur after becoming a bit-part player for Barcelona in the previous campaign.
The 28-year-old made 35 appearances across all competitions while chipping in with one goal and two assists. But Lenglet’s loan spell with Tottenham has ended, and he has returned to Barcelona. However, the player has no future at the Catalan giants, who will look to cash in on him in the summer transfer window.
Barcelona will not demand much from Lenglet’s sale, with reports claiming they hope to recoup €10 million from the proceeds. And rejoining Tottenham in a permanent deal is seemingly on the cards. But the North London giants are not ready to meet Barcelona’s demands to re-sign the Frenchman.

Recent reports have suggested personal terms will not be an issue. And Tottenham and Lenglet already have an agreement in principle over a move this summer. The Premier League giants have now submitted an offer to sign the 28-year-old from Barcelona. But the bid will unlikely satisfy the Blaugrana.
The report claims Tottenham’s proposal is worth €5 million, half the amount Barcelona will hope to recoup from Lenglet’s sale. Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has suggested the Frenchman is not a priority target for the North London club. Instead, they will focus on signing Edmond Tapsoba and Micky van de Ven.
To Romano’s credit, reports linking Lenglet and Tottenham stem exclusively from Spain. In addition, if they have submitted a lowball bid worth €5 million, it will unlikely yield Lenglet’s services. And it will be interesting to see who becomes Tottenham’s first defensive signing this summer.
