Barcelona will hope to recoup €10 million when they sell 28-year-old French international Clement Lenglet, a target for Tottenham.
According to a report by SPORT, as relayed by Sport Witness, Clement Lenglet remains the subject of interest from Tottenham. And Barcelona will look to recoup around €10 million when they deal with the North London club for the 28-year-old defender.
Clement Lenglet needed only one season at Sevilla to earn a blockbuster move to Barcelona in July 2018. The French international could do no wrong back then and quickly became a regular for the Blaugrana. But after two seasons with high-quality performances, his stock started dropping considerably.
The 28-year-old lost prominence after the initial high before becoming a bit-part player in the 2021/22 season. So it was hardly surprising that Barcelona decided to loan him out last summer to preserve his value. And Tottenham secured Lenglet’s services for the 2022/23 campaign. But the player continued to blow hot and cold at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Frenchman was fairly regular for Tottenham, as he turned out 35 times across all competitions. He also chipped in with one goal and two assists in his outings. But recent reports have painted contrasting pictures one after the other on Lenglet’s future. There were claims in March that the North London club would not sign him permanently.
But the most recent reports have revealed that Barcelona and Tottenham have made progress in talks over a permanent deal. And the newly-crowned La Liga champions are hoping to recoup a cut-price sum of €10 million from Lenglet’s sale. That sum should fit Tottenham’s budget for the 28-year-old this summer.
The London giants are also keen on signing Edmond Tapsoba, who will likely be the first-choice centre-back. But with Ben Davies, Japhet Tanganga and Davinson Sanchez facing uncertain futures, paying €10 million for someone like Lenglet makes sense. And it will be interesting to see if Barcelona can recoup the sum from his sale.
Lenglet’s Barcelona future is non-existent, with his topsy-turvy ride at Spotify Camp Nou coming to an end. And a cut-price deal worth €10 million should be on the cards for Tottenham to sign him permanently this summer.
