Barcelona will soon concede defeat in the race to sign 30-year-old Inter Milan midfield powerhouse Marcelo Brozovic.
According to Spanish journalist Adrian Sanchez, Marcelo Brozovic will not join Barcelona in the summer transfer window. The 30-year-old Inter Milan midfield powerhouse is closing in on moving to Saudi Arabia. And the Catalan giants will soon accept defeat in the race to sign the veteran midfielder.
Marcelo Brozovic has been one of the best midfielders in the world over the past half a decade or so. The Croat was an unspectacular figure for much of his professional career until joining Inter Milan. And he did not set the stage alight immediately after moving to San Siro either. But he has come leaps and bounds in the last few seasons.
The 30-year-old has been an integral part of Inter’s rise in recent years. And he has helped deliver multiple trophies while turning out 330 times for the Nerazzurri. But Brozovic’s stint with Inter Milan will likely end in the summer transfer window. And Barcelona had been hoping to secure his services ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Barcelona will kick-start the summer transfer window by signing Ilkay Gundogan in a Bosman move. But the Blaugrana might have to sign two midfielders ahead of the 2023/24 season. While Gundogan will effectively replace Sergio Busquets, it is worth noting that Franck Kessie faces an uncertain future at Spotify Camp Nou.
And Brozovic could have been the ideal candidate to fortify the Barcelona midfield in the summer transfer window. Recent reports also suggested the 30-year-old midfield powerhouse was keen on joining Barcelona. But Adrian Sanchez has revealed that the Catalan giants are ready to concede defeat in the race to sign him.
The Croatian international is also a target for Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr. And he is reportedly closing in on moving to the Middle East instead of joining Barcelona this summer. So the newly-crowned La Liga champions will accept defeat in the chase before turning their attention to alternatives.
Recent reports have linked Barcelona with several midfielders, including Dani Parejo. And it will be interesting to see who becomes the top midfield target for Barcelona after losing the race to secure Brozovic’s services.
