Tottenham optmistic of signing Tosin Adarabioyo

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly growing increasingly confident of striking an agreement to sign former Manchester City centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo from fellow London club Fulham this summer.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham are confident that they can convince Tosin Adarabioyo to join them this summer. The report adds that although the 25-year-old is not at the top of new boss Ange Postecoglou’s wishlist, the Fulham defender is emerging as a genuine option for the Lilywhites, given he could be available for a cut-price fee due to his contract situation.

Ange Postecoglou has made shoring up a leaky Spurs backline one of his top priorities for the summer, with a new keeper seemingly already on the way and at least one new centre-back to follow. The north London outfit are expected to complete the signing of Empoli stopper Guglielmo Vicario in the next few days, with a medical already scheduled.

One area that Postecoglou will want to strengthen is defence. Last season, the Tottenham backline proved fragile far too many times as the club endured a tough season. And they conceded a whopping 63 goals in the Premier League alone.

Eric Dier’s form plummeted in the second half of the season, and Cristian Romero did not seem to be the same player who shone at the World Cup for Argentina in Qatar. Davinson Sanchez is poised to be moved on, while Clement Lenglet is back at Barcelona after his hardly ground-breaking loan at Tottenham.

The likes of Harry Maguire, Marc Guehi, and Gleison Bremer have all been linked with moves to Tottenham. But Edmond Tapsoba is understood to be their top defensive target. Recent reports have suggested Tapsoba is willing to move to Tottenham.

But Spurs are not the only team in the race, with the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, and Newcastle United now joining the race. And they could all could be deemed as more attractive destinations for the Burkina Faso international. Another centre-back on Tottenham’s radar is Tosin Adarabioyo, who could become a good alternative for Spurs as the window progresses.

The 25-year-old first cut his teeth with Manchester City before developmental loan stints at Blackburn Rovers and West Bromwich Albion landed him at Fulham, where he has held his own in the Premier League and proven himself to be an athletic, ball-playing, reliable defender.

Last season, he managed 25 games in all competitions and scored one goal for Marco Silva’s side. He is entering the final 12 months of his contract at the West London club, which will make him quite approachable. A similar scenario occurred during the Tottenham’ search for a new goalkeeper.

Tottenham picked David Raya as their primary target but were reluctant to match Brentford’s £40 million asking price, with Vicario likely to sign for less than half that amount instead. Premier League-proven, Adarabioyo is a good player who has a lot to offer in terms of his attributes. He is fast, strong in the air, and could play progressive passes from the back.
