Newcastle United have reportedly been informed that they will have to pay around £35 million for the services of Fulham defender Antonee Robinson.

According to Evening Standard, Fulham will demand £35 million to part ways with Antonee Robinson in the ongoing summer transfer window. The 25-year-old left-back is the subject of interest from Newcastle United as Eddie Howe looks to find himself a reliable left-back to provide competition for makeshift defender Dan Burn.

The Magpies have had a busy week. After recently agreeing to a deal with AC Milan, the Magpies are preparing to announce they have signed playmaker Sandro Tonali for £60 million.

While there is excitement surrounding Tonali’s impending arrival in the northeast, head coach Eddie Howe and sporting director Dan Ashworth are in a hurry to wrap up summer business early to be ready for pre-season.

In recent weeks, a multitude of players have made their way into the headlines surrounding a potential signing from Newcastle United or a transfer to St. James’ Park to add quality in certain positions, but one area in particular that Howe must improve is the left-back area.

Despite having Dan Burn, Jamal Lewis, and Matt Targett among his options, none of them are known for their ability to maraud forward and impact the attack. One player who would almost certainly have more to offer Howe’s side is USMNT star, Antonee Robinson.

Since joining Fulham from Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2020, Robinson has gone on to make 107 appearances for the West London club, contributing three goals and five assists.

After helping Marco Silva’s side secure promotion from the Championship last season, Robinson started 35 of the club’s 38 Premier League games and was one of the standout performers in Marco Silva’s side as they finished tenth in the Premier League last season, despite many people expecting a relegation scrap for the West London club.

He also starred on the international stage with an energetic USMNT side that made it to the knockout rounds of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. This season has seen the full-back show how capable he is in terms of going forward and his defensive work as well. Both Lewis and Targett have barely had a look-in this past season.

Moving forward, if either Targett or Lewis are looking for a new club in the summer and Newcastle feel like continuing their track record of signing players from English clubs, launching a move for Robinson could be the best option for them.

But with a hefty £35 million asking price slapped on his head, it will be interesting to see if Newcastle United will be willing to pay such a sum to secure his services after extravagant spending on midfield reinforcements.
