Aston Villa are stepping up their efforts to sign Tyler Adams from relegated Leeds United as Unai Emery continues his squad rebuild.
According to The Athletic, Tyler Adams is a definitive target for Aston Villa as they step up their efforts to sign the USMNT star. The American could look for a way out of relegated Leeds United, who are keen to keep hold of the 24-year-old midfield powerhouse.
There’s a tough decision for Leeds United to make with several players in their squad as Premier League clubs come knocking. The dangers of losing some key members grew exponentially after their relegation got confirmed.
Off the list, Tyler Adams stands out as the USMNT star and will want to continue playing at the highest levels. While the EFL Championship offers a unique experience, it may not help with his individual career. Many clubs are reportedly interested in the top flight.
Liverpool and Tottenham were among those keen at some stage. Manchester United were also linked with a move. Adams was one of the better performers at Leeds last season despite a dreadful campaign from the team’s perspective. He missed the final two months with a hamstring problem but hopes to return for pre-season.
Aston Villa entered the race a few days ago, with Unai Emery keen on the 24-year-old midfield powerhouse. Adams offers something different to his current midfielders as the manager ponders changes to his squad and its depth.
Villa will have additional responsibilities next season with the UEFA Europa Conference League. Hence, Emery wants a quality squad that can attempt to compete on all fronts, particularly in the Premier League and Europe. Hence, the need for different profiles, especially in midfield.
They could sell Morgan Sanson and Marvelous Nakamba while being open to offers for Leander Dendoncker. Adams could replace the latter in the squad, as Villa have already signed Youri Tielemans on a free transfer from Leicester City.
They were also linked with Matteo Guendouzi, among other stars, for this midfield berth, but it may appear Emery will chase Adams. With the 24-year-old midfield powerhouse in the team, they will have plenty of depth to call upon. The Spanish manager eyes regular rotation in what promises to become a busy season ahead.
Once the midfield gets sorted, Emery will eye new players in other areas. They are keen on adding a new winger, while a centre-back could also arrive in this window. Villarreal’s Pau Torres remains linked as the manager knows his talents well, but the club will also watch attackers that suit their system.
