Chelsea rival Liverpool in Federico Chiesa pursuit

Chelsea are reportedly keen on signing Federico Chiesa, a target for Liverpool, from Juventus in the summer transfer window.

Federico Chiesa is highly rated around Europe, and Chelsea are looking to sign him. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Blues will have to compete with Liverpool, who are keen on signing the 25-year-old winger as well. The wide attacker will cost around €60 million in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly an admirer of the Italian international, with the Reds pushing to secure his services. So it will be interesting to see which of the two clubs manage to sign him.

Chiesa was outstanding for Italy in the UEFA Euro 2020, helping them win the competition. However, his development has not progressed as expected because of persistent injury issues. The player has missed 62 matches over the last two seasons, and he will be desperate to get his career back on track with regular football now.

Liverpool could definitely use attacking reinforcements, and Chiesa would be a useful option to have. Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz are the only natural wingers at the club, and Liverpool have had to use central midfielders in the wide areas during their absence.

Klopp needs more depth in his side in order to compete with Manchester City. And someone like Chiesa could prove to be a useful option. The Italian international is capable of playing on both flanks and he will add pace, creativity and goals to the side.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are expected to part ways with players like Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech this summer. They will need more depth in the wide areas, and the Italian international certainly fits the profile.

The winger is reportedly valued at €60 million by Juventus. And it will be interesting to see if Liverpool and Chelsea are prepared to pay up for him. For a player who is as injury prone as Chiesa, the reported asking price seems quite steep. So the two English clubs will be hoping to sign him for a more reasonable price.

Signing the Italian international will be a bit of a gamble because of his injury history, and Liverpool have the experience of dealing with perennially injured players. The Reds will not want to be in a similar situation once again, especially after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita spent most of their Anfield careers on the sidelines.

The Italian international will have to prove his fitness, and Juventus might have to lower the €60 million asking price in order for any move to go through. If Chiesa manages to recapture his peak form, he could be a star for Liverpool or Chelsea. The Italian has all the attributes to develop into a world-class player, and he was tipped to become the next big thing in Italian football after the Euros.
