Manchester United midfielder Zidane Iqbal is reportedly set to join the Eredivisie club FC Utrecht this summer.
According to a report from The Athletic, Zidane Iqbal is set to complete a €1 million transfer to FC Utrecht in the coming days.
The talented young midfielder has struggled to force his way into the first team scene under Erik ten Hag, and he needs to leave the club in order to play regularly. The 20-year-old was highly rated at Old Trafford, and he was expected to be a part of the Manchester United first team setup.
After joining the club in April 2021, the talented young midfielder made his first-team debut later that year as a substitute in a Champions League match against Young Boys. However, things have not worked out for the player. So it makes sense for him to move on. He is yet to make a single appearance under Ten Hag despite making three appearances for his national team Iraq.
He will be hoping to get his career back on track with regular first-team action at FC Utrecht. If he can establish himself as a key player for the Dutch club in the coming seasons, he could get the opportunity to secure a big move elsewhere in the near future.
Meanwhile, Manchester United will look to bring in midfield reinforcements this summer. Erik ten Hag helped the Red Devils get back into the Champions League and win the League Cup this past season. However, they need better players to compete for the league title and the midfield is an area that is in need of additions.
Signing a quality central midfielder should be a top priority for the Red Devils, and they are thought to be keeping tabs on the Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella. Meanwhile, Zidane Iqbal has already completed a medical with the Dutch club earlier this week and will sign a four-year contract with them.
The report from The Athletic claims that Manchester United have inserted a significant sell-on clause in the youngster’s contract. It seems that they believe that the 20-year-old could develop into a key player for Utrecht and could secure a big move away from the club in future.
