Edouard Mendy is all set to leave Chelsea during the summer transfer window to join Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Edouard Mendy is heading to Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli, and the 31-year-old has agreed a three-year contract with them.
The 31-year-old goalkeeper had fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, and he needed to leave the club in search of regular playing time. He could still be an important player for most clubs if he manages to regain his confidence.
The Blues have been linked with a number of goalkeepers in recent weeks, and it remains to be seen whether they can bring in a new number-one this summer. Chelsea already have Kepa Arrizabalaga at their disposal. But the Spaniard is likely to be competing for a first-team spot next season.
Mendy has been a useful servant for Chelsea, and he was outstanding for them after joining the club initially. He helped them win the UEFA Champions League title as well. However, the goalkeeper has clearly regressed over the past year add a change of scenery could help him regain his peak form.

Chelsea have signed a number of players over the last couple of windows, and the new owners have splashed around €600 million on new signings. They need to get rid of the fringe players now in order to balance the books and the departure of Mendy will certainly lighten the wage bill for the club.
A number of other Chelsea players are reportedly heading to Saudi Arabia this summer. The likes of N’Golo Kante, Kalidou Koulibaly and Hakim Ziyech are all in talks to seal moves to the Saudi Arabian league. The Blues will have to bring in necessary reinforcements this summer. But it remains to be seen whether they can get the deals across the line.
Chelsea had a disappointing campaign this past season, finishing 12th in the league table. A club of their stature is expected to compete in the Champions League every year and challenge for major trophies. Mauricio Pochettino must bring in the necessary additions that can propel Chelsea back into the title race next season.
