Newcastle prioritise contract talks with Bruno Guimaraes

Bruno Guimaraes has been linked with a possible move away from Newcastle United, with Barcelona interested in him.

Reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Newcastle United consider the 25-year-old midfielder as an indispensable asset. And they have made it their priority to secure a contract extension with him. The player has been linked with Barcelona this summer.

Apparently, Newcastle United and Bruno Guimaraes have held talks regarding a contract extension, and discussions are set to continue in the next weeks as well. The midfielder is set to receive a huge salary increase after his splendid performances this past season.

The Brazilian midfield general is undoubtedly one of the best players in the Premier League right now. And he was a key player for Newcastle this past season, helping them secure Champions League qualification. Newcastle will need a better and bigger squad to compete in the Champions League next year, and they cannot afford to lose someone like Bruno Guimaraes.

There have been rumours that the player could be used in a deal to sign Raphinha from Barcelona. But it seems highly unlikely that Newcastle will let the player leave anytime soon. The Brazilian is undoubtedly the best central midfielder at the club and his departure would weaken them severely.

Guimaraes is good enough to play for top clubs in Europe. But he has shown no desire to leave Newcastle just yet. He will want to be a part of their ambitious project. And their qualification for the Champions League will only reinforce his idea that Newcastle is the ideal platform for him to achieve his ambitions.

Meanwhile, a report from Fichajes claims that Barcelona are keen on signing the midfielder during the summer transfer window. But Newcastle’s reluctance to do business has made any potential move complicated. The Magpies are one of the wealthiest clubs in the world, and Barcelona are unlikely to be able to tempt them with money.

On top of that, the Blaugrana are going through financial difficulties and are not in a position to entice the player with a massive contract either. It seems that the 25-year-old’s immediate future is with Newcastle. So he will look to fulfil his potential and win some trophies with the Magpies in the coming seasons.
