Liverpool are closing in on a potential deal for 21-year-old Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch amid interest from Manchester United.
According to a report by Fichajes, Liverpool are keen on having Ryan Gravenberch in their ranks ahead of next season. The Merseyside club have been interested in the 21-year-old for a while now and are expected to make moves in the near future. The Bayern Munich midfielder is also a target for Manchester United.
Gravenberch has come through the ranks at Ajax. He made quite a name for himself while playing for the Dutch club’s first team from the summer of 2019 to 2022. His performances attracted a lot of attention, and quite a few big clubs wanted to acquire the highly talented midfielder.
Eventually, Bayern Munich managed to come out on top and acquire the 21-year-old for a fee of €25 million ahead of the 2022/23 season. The move came with a lot of expectations as Gravenberch was one of the most sought-after players.
However, the transfer has not gone according to plan as the Netherlands Under-21 star has not received enough game time at Bayern Munich. He started just five fixtures and accumulated a total of 938 minutes in his 33 appearances this past season.
The limited game time has frustrated the 21-year-old, and he even expressed it via an interview a few weeks back. While the Bundesliga club are willing to try everything possible to keep him at the club, Gravenberch could push for a move elsewhere in search of regular first-team action.
The German giants recently acquired the services of RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer on a four-year contract. With the arrival of Laimer, Gravenberch’s game time could go down even further. As a result, the former Ajax star is all set to make a decision on his future after the European Under-21 Championship.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are one of the clubs interested in the 21-year-old. Erik ten Hag wants to acquire a new midfielder and would love to reunite with Gravenberch at Old Trafford having worked with him at Ajax.
However, Liverpool are ahead in the race for his signatures. They have been in talks over a potential deal for the Netherlands Under-21 star for a while now. The Merseyside club are trying to complete a midfield overhaul ahead of next season. And singing Gravenberch will help their cause.
Jurgen Klopp has a reputation for developing young players and giving them extended runs in the first team. And, the 21-year-old former Ajax star would surely love to work under the German tactician.
