According to reputed Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, intermediaries offered Barcelona the chance to sign Adrien Rabiot in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window. The 28-year-old will become a free agent in a few days if he does not sign a new contract with Juventus. But the Catalan giants have turned down the opportunity to secure his services.
Adrien Rabiot has reached another crossroads in his career a few years after leaving Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent. The French international joined Juventus in a Bosman move in July 2019. And while he endured a few turbulent seasons, he came into his own in the recently-concluded campaign.
The 28-year-old contributed to 17 goals in 48 appearances, finding the back of the net 11 times while providing six assists. In addition, the player was a part of the French squad that reached the 2022 FIFA World Cup final. But Rabiot’s future is uncertain as his Juventus contract will expire in less than two weeks. And intermediaries have offered Barcelona the chance to sign him.
Barcelona will enter the market for a midfielder in the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants are losing Sergio Busquets as a free agent next month. And while the veteran midfielder was not as imposing as he was in his pomp, his departure will leave a huge void in the Barcelona midfield.
So it behoves Barcelona to invest in a midfielder who can share holding midfield duties with Frenkie de Jong. And while Rabiot is a box-to-box midfielder, he can also play from the base of the midfield unit. Recent reports also suggested that the Catalan giants had reignited their interest in the 28-year-old.
But such suggestions seem false following Gerard Romero’s latest claims. The Spanish journalist has revealed that the newly-crowned La Liga champions have rejected the offer to sign the French international. But he has not divulged any further details on Barcelona’s other midfield targets.

However, recent reports have linked Barcelona with several midfielders, including Giovani Lo Celso. And it will be interesting to see who arrives at the Catalan club to bolster the midfield unit. As for Rabiot, his future remains uncertain heading into the summer transfer window.
