Manchester United have been linked with a move for Yann Sommer in the past, and they could revive their interest in the goalkeeper.

According to talkSPORT, Manchester United could return for 34-year-old Bayern Munich goalkeeper Yann Sommer in the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils could lose Dean Henderson in the coming weeks amid links with Nottingham Forest, and Sommer would be a quality replacement. Henderson needs to leave Old Trafford in order to play regular first-team football. So it would not be a surprise if he decided to secure a permanent exit from Manchester United.

The Englishman has proven himself to be a capable Premier League goalkeeper during loan spells at Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest. Manchester United clearly cannot offer him regular first-team football. So it makes sense for him to move on.

On the other hand, David de Gea has been error-prone under Erik ten Hag, and his style of play does not suit the Dutchman’s philosophy either. Ten Hag prefers keepers with better distribution skills. But it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils decide to replace the Spaniard at this summer.

De Gea will be out of contract in the coming weeks, and he is yet to sign an extension with Manchester United. It is evident that the Red Devils will have to start looking at other goalkeepers, and Sommer would be a quality addition. The 34-year-old has proven himself to be a top-class keeper for club and country over the years and he has the experience and quality to succeed in the Premier League as well.

The opportunity to play for a big club like Manchester United will be an attractive option for the player. Furthermore, he is unlikely to start for Bayern Munich next season, especially with Manual Neuer returning from his injury. A player of his quality needs to play every week, and an exit from the Bundesliga club would be ideal for him.

He could be available for a reasonable price given his stature at Bayern Munich. So Manchester United should do everything in their power to secure his services. The 34-year-old could prove to be a major bargain for the Red Devils, and he could sort out their goal-keeping department for a couple of seasons at the very least.
