Tottenham have tabled a ‘serious offer’ worth €19 million for Victor Nelsson, but Galatasaray could ask for more.
According to Turkish outlet Turkiye Gazetesi, Tottenham have taken the first step toward defender Victor Nelsson by making a ‘serious offer.’ The north London side have made a €19 million bid, which is still short of what Galatasaray wants.
Victor Nelsson’s name continues to make the news about a move away from Galatasaray. Coming at the back of a league-winning season, the Danish defender is ready for a new challenge and would like to move on from the club.
Galatasaray iare not against the idea, provided they receive a good sum in return. Currently, the 24-year-old center-back has a €25 million release clause in his contract, with several English clubs, including Arsenal and Tottenham, interested in the Danish star.
Recent stories insisted Nelsson would prefer the Premier League as his next destination. The North London clubs are in the race alongside European giants Sevilla, Atalanta, and Borussia Dortmund.
Tottenham have been keen for a while and have taken the first steps toward securing the defender. Spurs have reportedly made a ‘serious offer’ of €19 million, which Galatasaray considers short of their valuations. The Turkish club reportedly want the full release clause but could settle for €22 million.
Spurs are seeking new defenders in the summer window after an underwhelming season. Their eighth-placed finish will see them not participate in any European competitions next season, which could hurt their chances of signing top names.
However, the lure of playing in the Premier League and London could tempt Nelsson into moving to Spurs. That said, the Premier League giants must move fast and not hassle about the fee to secure the signing. For now, they could continue talking to Galatasaray and find a middle ground, although €22 million seems reasonable for a player of his quality.
Whether Nelsson views Tottenham as a viable option to further his career remains the question. His arrival could improve their backline exponentially. But things could change if another English club with European football emerges in the race. So Spurs could lose if they don’t act fast with Nelsson.
