Manchester United have been linked with Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount for weeks, with Liverpool losing out on him.

Mason Mount will be out of contract next summer and is yet to sign an extension with Chelsea. The English international is now thought to be closing in on a move to Manchester United according to Liverpool Echo. The 24-year-old was also a target for Liverpool.

Previously, Fabrizio Romano has reported that agreeing personal terms will not be a problem between the two parties. And Manchester United are now waiting for Chelsea to come up with reasonable demands.

Mount has been linked with clubs like Liverpool as well. But the Reds have moved on from him because of his asking price. Apparently, Chelsea holding out for a fee of around €80 million for their academy graduate. For a player in the final year of his contract, that is a steep demand, and Manchester United are unlikely to pay up.

Chelsea will have to scale down their demands for the move to go through. They are under pressure to cash in on Mount this summer and will not want to lose the England international on a free transfer. Letting him leave for a reasonable price this summer seems like the only option for the West London club.

Meanwhile, Mount will look to get his career back on track with a move to Old Trafford. It has been a disappointing season for him, and he will look to get back to his best. Manchester United need to add goals and creativity in the middle of the park. In addition, the €80 million-rated playmaker could be the ideal long-term alternative to Christian Erikeon.

The 24-year-old is a proven performer in the Premier League, and he could make a big difference in the final third. Mount is versatile enough to play in a number of attacking roles, and he will help Manchester United break down the opposition’s defences with his creativity, vision and goal-scoring ability.

Mount has played with Marcus Rashford at the international level, and the two could form a quality partnership in the final third at Manchester United as well. The Red Devils will be hoping to challenge for the league title next year and they need top players to bridge the gap with Manchester City.
