Erik ten Hag holds talks with Rasmus Hojlund

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has held talks with 20-year-old Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund ahead of a potential summer move.

According to The Athletic, Manchester United have their eyes on Rasmus Hojlund. The Red Devils are keen on acquiring a new striker ahead of the next season and could push for the services of the 20-year-old. Their manager Erik ten Hag is leading the initiative and has already held talks with the Atalanta striker.

Hojlund has gone from strength to strength over the past two seasons. He came through the ranks at FC Copenhagen before making a move to Sturm Graz in the winter of 2022.

The 20-year-old had an impressive short stint at Strum Graz where he scored 12 goals and assisted four times in his 21 appearances. Hojlund was at the Austrian club for just six months, in the summer of 2022 Atalanta came calling and acquired him for a reported fee of €17 million.

The Denmark international has since featured in 34 matches for the Italian outfit and has 14 goal contributions. His impressive performances have attracted a lot of attention and one of the clubs keen on having him in their ranks are Manchester United.

The Red Devils have done a decent job in the 2022-23 season and have made it back to the Champions League courtesy of their new manager Erik ten Hag. The Dutch manager might have done a good job in his first season but he has identified key areas that need strengthening ahead of next season.

His priority is to sign a top-class striker. The former Ajax manager has his eyes set on Harry Kane but the Tottenham striker might not be that easy to sign. As a result, he is also monitoring Hojlund and wants the club to push for his services.

The 20-year-old’s contract with the Italian club runs until the summer of 2027 but they are open to the idea of letting him leave if a club meets their asking price of at least £40 million. The player is keen on joining Manchester United after having talked about a potential move with manager Erik ten Hag over a video call a few backs week.

As he eyes a potential Manchester United deal, the Denmark international has signed with SEG, whose co-founder Kees Vos manages Ten Hag. And, Vos might end up playing a key role in this deal.
