Aston Villa in pole position to sign Pedro Goncalves

Aston Villa are reportedly looking to improve their attacking options with the signing of Portuguese international Pedro Goncalves.

According to a report via Sport Witness, Aston Villa are now leading the chase for Pedro Goncalves. The Portuguese international has been outstanding for Sporting CP this season and has a release clause worth €80 million.

The 24-year-old is valued at €80 million, and it will be interesting to see if the West Midlands club are prepared to break their transfer record for him. Goncalves has been in outstanding form, providing 35 goal contributions across all competitions.

The Portuguese international is versatile enough to play on either flank, and he will add some much-needed goals and creativity to Unai Emery’s side in the final third. So he has emerged as a viable target for Aston Villa.

Aston Villa have been overly dependent on Ollie Watkins for goals this season. And the 27-year-old striker clearly needs more help and support from his teammates. Goncalves has been linked with other Premier League clubs as well. So it will be interesting to see where he ends up.

Aston Villa did quite well in the Premier League this season after a horrendous start, and they have finished seventh in the league table. Villa will play in Europe next season. So they need a bigger and better squad to do well across multiple fronts.

Signing a top-quality attacker should be a top priority for them this summer, and Goncalves would be a solid long-term acquisition. The 24-year-old has shown his quality in the European competitions with Sporting CP this season, and he could be a key player in the Premier League as well.

The opportunity to move to England and play under a top coach like Emery is likely to be an attractive proposition for the winger. But it remains to be seen whether Aston Villa can secure an agreement with his club now. The winger will be determined to test himself at a higher level and a move to the Premier League would be the ideal next step in his career.

The Portuguese international is still only 24 and he is likely to improve further with coaching and experience. He could develop into an indispensable asset for the Premier League club in the coming seasons. For now, Aston Villa lead the race to sign him. And it will be interesting to see if they pay anywhere close to €80 million to land Pote.
