Newcastle United may have to pay a £20 million-plus fee to sign Barcelona target Arda Guler in the summer.

According to Football Insider, Arda Guler could cost Newcastle United a £20 million-plus fee during the summer window. The Magpies have chased the emerging Turkish star and are confident of beating Barcelona for the 18-year-old’s signature.

Arda Guler is one of the most promising stars around the block. The 18-year-old has impressed onlookers with a breakthrough season with Fenerbahce, notching six goals and six assists in 34 appearances across all competitions. The attacking midfielder, hence, has no shortage of suitors, with a host of top clubs vying for his signature.

His contract reportedly had a cut-price release clause, which has not been dissolved following the 2022/23 season. He could now cost a £20 million-plus fee for suitors keen on his services. Newcastle United are among those chasing him alongside Barcelona, Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Guler has shown he has a long future ahead and the willingness to work hard. Clubs are keen to acquire him and aid his development, with Newcastle United the club in pole position as things stand. Reports suggested the Magpies officials flew in to hold talks with Guler and his representatives.

The meeting reportedly was held in the Middle East, with the club showcasing their intention with the youngster. They feel he can have an instant impact in England, but they might look to loan him out for next season. Whether that is what the player wants remains the question, but the Magpies will look for a club where he plays regularly.

Newcastle may have to fork out the £20 million-plus fee, which may not represent a problem for them. Moreover, they are confident of beating Barcelona, their closest rivals for Guler. The Catalan giants have registered an interest and could proceed with an official approach.

Xavi Hernandez rates the player highly and might push president Joan Laporta to make the deal happen. Yet, they have financial problems, which may take some time to resolve, as Newcastle United could take advantage of the situation. For now, the Magpies are favourites to land the attacking midfielder from Fenerbahce. They might feel aggrieved having to pay extra than before. But there’s optimism a deal will conclude.
