Chelsea will reportedly demand £20 million to part ways with 21-year-old wide man Ian Maatsen amid interest from Burnley.
According to a report by Evening Standard, Chelsea might not block a permanent exit for Ian Maatsen. The Blues want £20 million to part ways with the 21-year-old wide man. Meanwhile, Burnley will attempt to sign the young prospect permanently in the summer transfer window.
Ian Maatsen is one of the most promising young prospects to have graduated from Chelsea’s youth division in the last few years. The Dutchman spent most of his formative years in his homeland, even representing PSV Eindhoven. But he ended his youth career at Chelsea before embarking on loan spells.
The 21-year-old wide man was impressive with Charlton Athletic and Coventry City before moving to Burnley. And the youngster became a regular for the Clarets this season, chipping in with four goals and six assists in 42 appearances. But Maatsen’s loan stint has ended, and he stares at an uncertain future at Chelsea.
The Chelsea first-team squad has three left-back options — Ben Chilwell, Marc Cucurella, and Lewis Hall. But Chilwell is the only player whose Chelsea future is secure for the foreseeable future. And recent reports have suggested that Cucurella might leave Chelsea only a year after arriving at Stamford Bridge.
Meanwhile, recent reports have linked Hall with Crystal Palace. So Maatsen might have a slim chance of establishing a foothold at Chelsea if Mauricio Pochettino allows it. But Burnley will look to secure the youngster’s services permanently in the summer transfer window. And the Blues have now set a price tag for the 21-year-old wide man.
Chelsea will demand £20 million to part ways with the Dutch full-back in the summer transfer window. But it is unclear if Burnley will be open to matching the West London club’s valuation. While the Clarets are eager to sign Maatsen permanently, their budget for the summer is unknown.
Recent reports have also linked the 21-year-old wide man with a few Bundesliga clubs. So it will be interesting to see if Chelsea can recoup £20 million from Maatsen’s sale. But keeping him at Stamford Bridge beyond the summer transfer window might be a sensible decision.
