Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing 27-year-old German defender Jonathan Tah from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen.

Jonathan Tah has done quite well for Bayer Leverkusen over the years, and he has been linked with the move to the Premier League in the past as well. Now, a report from BILD claims that Tottenham are now looking to lure him to the Premier League in the coming weeks.

Apparently, the German defender has an €18 million release clause in this contract, and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham are prepared to pay up for him. The reported asking price could prove to be a major bargain for the 27-year-old.

Tah has been a reliable defender in the Bundesliga, and he has the physical and technical attributes to succeed in the Premier League as well. The opportunity to join Tottenham will be an exciting option for the player, and he is likely to be tempted.

Tottenham will have to tighten up at the back if they want to get back into the top four and compete for trophies next season. They have been quite vulnerable defensively this year. It has been a disappointing campaign for Tottenham. So they must look to address the problems in their squad and bounce back strongly next season.

The 27-year-old German defender is at the peak of his powers, and he will look to make an immediate impact at the north London club next season. He could end up proving to be a major bargain for Tottenham if he manages to settle in quickly.

Spurs will have to find a reliable partner for Cristian Romero and the German international certainly fits the profile. It is fair to assume that Tottenham will not be the only club looking to sign him this summer and it remains to be seen where the defender ends up.

Tottenham have failed to secure Champions League qualification and it will be interesting to see if the 27-year-old is willing to join a club outside of the top four in the Premier League. He is likely to have suitors amongst Champions League clubs as well. Meanwhile, Tottenham have shown interest in other centre-backs, including Robin Koch.
