Arsenal might launch the offensive to sign 29-year-old Portuguese international Raphael Guerreiro in a Bosman move this summer.
Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Raphael Guerreiro is the subject of interest from Arsenal. The Gunners view the 29-year-old Borussia Dortmund defender as an alternative to Joao Cancelo. And the full-back will leave Borussia Dortmund as a free agent in the summer transfer window.
Raphael Guerreiro has been a pivotal figure for much of his stint with Borussia Dortmund. The Portuguese international joined the Bundesliga giants from FC Lorient in July 2016. And despite enduring a spate of fitness issues, he has made his mark for the Black and Yellows in the last seven years.
The 29-year-old has not been the undisputed first-choice left-back for Dortmund this season. But he has still managed an excellent tally of six goals and 14 assists in 36 appearances thus far. Meanwhile, Guerreiro’s stint with the German club will end this summer when he departs as a free agent. And such a situation has captured the attention of several clubs, including Arsenal.
Arsenal will delve into the market for a left-back in the summer transfer window. That is because Kieran Tierney faces an uncertain future at the Emirates. And the Scottish international might leave Arsenal this summer to seek regular game time elsewhere amid links with Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and Manchester City.
Tierney’s departure will compel Arsenal to scour the market for a left-back. And Joao Cancelo has emerged as one of the targets for the position heading into the summer transfer window. Recent reports have also claimed that the Gunners have the edge over the other suitors in the race to sign the Manchester City defender.
But Cancelo is highly sought-after, with several other high-profile clubs keen on signing him. So it behoves Arsenal to have a contingency plan in place for the Portuguese international. And his compatriot Guerreiro has popped up on Arsenal’s radar over a possible summer move.
The 29-year-old Portuguese international is only a backup option for Arsenal. And it will be interesting to see if Guerreiro becomes the top target for the North London club. For now, he is set to leave Borussia Dortmund as a free agent in the summer transfer window.
