Newcastle United are eager to tie Callum Wilson to a new contract after an impressive season with 18 goals under his belt.

According to Football Insider, Callum Wilson is in line for a new contract at Newcastle United after an impressive season. The English striker has elevated the Magpies and helped them achieve Champions League qualification after a long hiatus.

It has been nearly two decades since Newcastle United last played in the Champions League. Their project under the new owners and Eddie Howe has propelled them to new heights after achieving a top-four finish this season.

Many had only expected Newcastle United to come close to breaking into the top six. But they exceeded those by making it into the Champions League. Much of the effort has gone into this side, and Eddie Howe has to take credit.

He has instilled a different mentality into his players, who have responded positively. One of their star performers has been Callum Wilson, with 18 goals in 31 top-flight games. The striker, who arrived in a £20 million deal in 2020, has excelled under Howe.

Wilson, 31, will enter the final year of his deal in the summer. And Newcastle United do not want to lose him for free in 2024. He could also negotiate a pre-contract with clubs abroad during the January window.

The Englishman could also have sufficient interest from Premier League sides in the summer. Newcastle are keen to extend his deal and offer him a substantial pay rise over his current £46,000-a-week wages. Wilson may not have a problem extending his stay, provided the new deal meets his requirement.

The duration of this new contract remains unclear, but the Maglies might look to tie him down for at least two years. Wilson is not the only player they want to offer a new contract, but a new deal for Fabian Schar is also under discussion.

More importantly, Newcastle United are keen to offer a new contract for Bruno Guimaraes and evade top clubs’ interest in their star midfielder. As for Wilson, he has developed a good understanding with summer arrival and record signing Alexander Isak, as Howe seeks continuity.

Fans will certainly support the move of a new contract for Wilson, having endeared himself at St. James’ Park. After the internal work of extending deals, Howe will want the club to strengthen in this market as they embark on a Champions League journey next season.
