Aston Villa are ready to break the bank and pay €50 million for the services of 26-year-old Villarreal defender Pau Torres.
According to AS via SportWitness, Aston Villa are ready to go all out to acquire the services of Pau Torres. The 26-year-old defender’s future is uncertain and he could push for a move away from Villarreal in the upcoming transfer window.
Torres has been a part of Villarreal since his childhood days, he has come up the ranks at the club and has established himself as one of the most important players for the club over the past few seasons.
As far as the ongoing season is concerned, the Spain international has been involved in 38 matches and also has a goal to his name. While he has been an important part of their first team, his future is uncertain.
The 26-year-old’s contract at the club runs out in the summer of 2024. With just over a year left in his contract, Torres could be on the move in the summer.
If he doesn’t sign a contract extension in the coming weeks, he could part ways with the club. There is a €50m release clause in his contract and it could be triggered by interested parties who want to acquire his services.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa are one of the clubs keen on having the 26-year-old in their ranks. Unai Emery who took charge of the English club mid-way through the season has hardly put a foot wrong. He has revived the club in some fashion and has secured European football for next season.
Emery is keen on strengthening his defence ahead of next season. And, he wants to have Torres in his ranks. The two have worked together back in the day and it will be interesting to see if the Spanish manager can convince the 26-year-old to join him at Villa Park.
Villa are ready to trigger his release clause as they believe the Spain international can help them take the next step. However, they are not the only club keen on having Torres. As a result, it will be interesting to see if they can manage to land the Villarreal defender at the club.
