Arsenal are all set to pen down a new deal with their 23-year-old English winger Reiss Nelson ahead of next season.
According to The Athletic, Reiss Nelson is all set to pen down a new deal with Arsenal. The 23-year-old is very close to agreeing on a contract extension with his childhood club after impressive performances throughout the season.
Nelson has been a part of the Gunners since 2007. He has come through the ranks at the club and has been subject to multiple loan moves over the years. The 23-year-old was promoted to their first team back in the summer of 2019.
However, he didn’t really have enough game time up until the ongoing season. He was sent out on loan to Feyenoord last season, the England Under-21 had a great loan spell at the Dutch club and has gone from strength to strength since.
Despite not making a start for Arsenal in the ongoing Premier League season, the 23-year-old has managed to leave a mark. He has been involved in 10 Premier League matches and has five goal contributions to his name despite being on the pitch for just 172 minutes.
Nelson has 17 appearances in all competitions and has been on the pitch for just 560 minutes. While he might not have had the desired minutes, the 23-year-old expects to have a bigger role in the team next season. His current contract was set to expire in the summer. And, Arsenal have decided to extend his stay at the club on the back of his impressive cameos throughout the season.
Nelson when he was asked about his future, said, “I’ve been here since I was eight and Arsenal is all I know. I’m only a couple of minutes from the stadium, all my family is there. So of course I’d love to stay.”
While the negotiations are still one, the 23-year-old is expected to pen down an initial four-year deal with an option to extend it by another 12 months. With the Gunners back in the Champions League, they will need a bigger squad and Nelson is expected to have a bigger role.
Arsenal have penned down new deals with Aaron Ramsdale and Bukayo Saka recently. And, they are closing in on agreeing on a new deal with their 23-year-old winger. They will try to get it done as soon as possible and then shift their focus towards the upcoming transfer market. The Gunners will have to further strengthen their squad as they look to be competitive in both the Premier League and the Champions League.
