Alexis Mac Allister’s father will travel to England next week to finalise Liverpool move

Liverpool are reportedly closing in on their first summer signing, with Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister’s father and agent set to fly into the UK to finalise the move next week.

Liverpool have made significant strides when it comes to signing prime target Alexis Mac Allister. That is according to developing reports from Argentinian journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, who says the Brighton midfielder’s agent, who so happens to also be his father, is due to fly into the UK next week for advanced discussions over a transfer for the Brighton playmaker.

Merlo adds that a contract until 2028 is on the table from Liverpool, and the Reds are the “most advanced” suitor for him. Elsewhere, Fabrizio Romano is reporting that a deal is close and that the player is expected to bid farewell to Brighton supporters this weekend.

After a largely forgettable season, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp is seeking for fresh midfield additions this summer. Indeed, the Merseysiders found out on Thursday evening that they will participate in the Europa League next season, with Manchester United securing the last Champions League spot with an emphatic 4-1 victory over hapless Chelsea.

Liverpool will be competing in UEFA’s second-tier tournament for the first time since 2016. Having also failed to win any trophies this season, the 2022/23 season will not be remembered fondly.

With James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita about to leave the building at the end of their deals, Klopp will allocate a big chunk of his summer spending on new midfielders. To that end, reports suggest he wants at least two or three new additions there this summer.

Alexis MacAllister is said to be among Liverpool’s main summer targets, particularly with Mason Mount angling for a Manchester United switch instead. The 24-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable season for Brighton and Argentina. He won the World Cup in the winter, and he has helped the Seagulls qualify for the Europa League.

The midfielder was one of the World Cup’s star performers, and he has made 15 goal contributions for Brighton in all competitions (12 goals, 3 assists), impressive numbers given that the majority of his appearances over the past nine months have seen him line up as a central midfielder.

A player with Mac Allister’s versatility and experience at such a young age is likely to be an excellent addition for Liverpool, who will be looking to get back on track next season.

With a new sporting director in place, Liverpool are pushing ahead with their summer recruitment plans. And it appears a deal for World Cup-winning playmaker Mac Allister will be the first piece of business for the Reds in this summer window.
