Bayern Munich plotting Julian Alvarez swoop

Trevoh Chalobah wants Bayern Munich move.

Bayern Munich are reportedly keen to raid Manchester City for Argentine striker Julian Alvarez.

According to Florian Plettenberg on Twitter, German giants Bayern Munich are interested in securing the services of Manchester City star Julian Alvarez in the upcoming summer transfer window. And they have already contacted the Premier League champions for the Argentine striker.

The Argentine international has enjoyed an excellent debut campaign in the Premier League, scoring 17 goals and making five assists in 47 games across all competitions. Alvarez also won the World Cup with Argentina, earning himself a place in footballing folklore for the rest of his life.

Primarily a striker, Alvarez is capable of playing anywhere along the front line and also as a number 10 if needed. This makes him an excellent candidate to thrive in a mobile attack that usually sees players interchange positions.

At 23, the South American is still to hit his peak and will only get better with age. Bayern Munich, now under new management are keen on the player and are considering a summer push. Signing Sadio Mane last summer has not worked out as expected with the Senegalese star now likely to depart Bavaria next summer amid interest from several top clubs.

Bayern have not quite replaced Robert Lewandowski’s numbers and are eyeing a striker next summer. Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo-Muani is a major target, but Alvarez also remains on the radar. The Manchester City star recently penned an extension that will keep him at the Etihad until 2028. However, it does not improve his prospects of being a regular starter given the presence of Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian international is a prolific goalscorer and is considered night-on indispensable. While Alvarez will certainly have his moments, the chances of him displacing Haaland from the first XI are remote at best. With Mane on his way out and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting not getting any younger, Alvarez could thrive at Bayern.

His ability to run into space and play on the overlap should see him link up well with the likes of Leroy Sane, Kingsley Coman, and Jamal Musiala. Adding him to the roster will certainly make the Bayern attack difficult to predict and pin down for opponents.

Alvarez’s debut campaign with Manchester City is far from done, and he has two major finals awaiting him in the next few weeks. Stellar showings at Wembley and Istanbul will certainly accelerate Bayern’s interest in him. Time will tell whether Manchester City are open to offers.
