West Ham United have set their sights on AS Roma’s 21-year-old defender Bryan Reynolds, who may not feature in Jose Mourinho’s plans.

According to The Athletic, West Ham United could move for Bryan Reynolds in the summer. Jose Mourinho does not want the 21-year-old defender in his squad, and AS Roma could cash in on the USMNT star if they receive a reasonable offer.

Bryan Reynolds is not a familiar name in the game, not at least for his time on the pitch. He played a total of a minute under Jose Mourinho before being shipped out on loan to Belgian side Westerlo. He has performed admirably in the Jupiler Pro League, making 32 appearances in all competitions.

The 21-year-old defender has provided five assists this season, all of which came in the league. He will have been hopeful of making an impression on Mourinho. And convincing the Portuguese to integrate him into his plans for the next season.

However, that may not materialise as Roma could consider offers for the 21-year-old defender. West Ham United are reportedly keen on signing Reynolds ahead of the summer. Irrespective of whether David Moyes stays, they may look to add a player for their right-back position.

They might even add two if West Ham decide on bringing in a starting right back. Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka remains a target. And if he arrives, the future of Vladimir Coufal could come under scrutiny. Moreover, the Hammers could also lose Ben Johnson in the summer, leading them to seek a replacement.

Reynolds could become this replacement player for Johnson, and he might arrive on the cheap from Roma. West Ham will look to exploit his situation at Roma and sign him for as cheap as possible. Yet, the Italian giants will look to recoup their £6.4 million investment and make some profit.

This season, Reynolds has been a good presence for Westerlo, and his performances have attracted West Ham’s interest. Moreover, the right-back could look at compatriot Auston Trusty and his immense development at Birmingham City before deciding on moving to England.

West Ham also want to bring in a central defender to add depth to their options. They hope to wrap up signings as early as possible, with the idea of Reynolds likely to prove a bright one for the Hammers.

Much will depend on Roma’s asking price for the 21-year-old defender. In today’s market standards, Reynolds will come at a reasonable price, affordable enough for a team like West Ham or any other Premier League side.
