Barcelona will soon ramp up the efforts to sign Yannick Carrasco from La Liga rival Atletico Madrid this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Barcelona will accelerate the move for Yannick Carrasco in the coming days. Mateu Alemany aims to wrap up the deal for the Belgian wide man in the coming weeks. And while the Catalan giants have the option to sign him for €18 million, they want to pay a smaller price.

Yannick Carrasco has been one of the most dependable performers in La Liga across his two stints with Atletico Madrid. The 29-year-old rose to prominence at AS Monaco but saw his stock soar during his first spell with Los Rojiblancos. And after two years in China, he returned to Spain in 2020.

The Belgian international played a pivotal role as Atletico Madrid won the La Liga title in 2020/21. And while Carrasco’s performance levels have dropped since then, he still has a decent tally of eight goals and five assists in 41 appearances this season. But the player will likely leave Atletico Madrid this summer, with Barcelona being a possible destination.

Barcelona secured a purchase option worth €18 million to secure Carrasco’s signature when they sold Memphis Depay to Atletico Madrid. But they also considered signing the wide man in the January transfer window. While a winter move did not materialise, Barcelona will look to sign him this summer.

Widespread reports have claimed that the 29-year-old is a top target for Barcelona. And the player has told Atletico Madrid that he will only leave to move to Spotify Camp Nou. But the Catalan giants do not want to shell out €18 million to secure Carrasco’s services this summer.

Mateu Alemany will soon approach Atletico Madrid to hash out a deal for a sum lower than €18 million. And the Barcelona transfer guru hopes to seal the agreement before the pre-season tour to the USA. But it is unclear if Atletico Madrid will be open to receiving less than the agreed fee.
