Real Madrid keeping tabs on Matheus Goncalves

Outgoing La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly tracking the progress of 17-year-old Brazilian winger Matheus Goncalves at Flamengo.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Matheus Goncalves is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Merengues are closely monitoring the progress of the 17-year-old Brazilian winger at Flamengo. And price tag of €25 million might be enough for Los Blancos to secure the youngster’s services.

Matheus Goncalves has spent his formative years thus far in his homeland. The teenage sensation has been with Flamengo since 2018, joining the Brazilian club as a 13-year-old. And he has come leaps and bounds at the Rio de Janeiro-based club and currently represents the under-20 side.

But the 17-year-old has also made his first-team debut and might soon become a pivotal figure for them. The Brazilian winger has turned out 14 times thus far for Flamengo, scoring twice. And Goncalves’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with Real Madrid among his prospective suitors.

Recent reports have linked the teenage wonderkid with several Premier League bigwigs. And Arsenal and Manchester City are reportedly keen on signing Goncalves from Flamengo. But Real Madrid’s emergence in the race to sign the youngster changes the equation considerably.

The Spanish giants are renowned for foraying into the South American market for promising prospects. And such an outlook has helped Real Madrid ensure smooth transitions from one generation to the next. Meanwhile, Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo Goes, and Federico Valverde are some of the South American recruits to succeed at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid will soon see Endrick arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu after sealing an agreement with Palmeiras. And Matheus Goncalves might become the latest South American recruit for Los Blancos. With Eden Hazard being a dud and Marco Asensio facing an uncertain future, signing Goncalves will be sensible.

The 17-year-old Brazilian winger can be a long-term wide-attacking solution for Real Madrid. And he can compete with Rodrygo Goes on the right flank in the long run. Meanwhile, the report claims that €25 million might be enough for the Merengues to seal the deal. And it will be interesting to see if an agreement sees the light of day anytime soon.
