Arsenal, Liverpool rival Barcelona in Joshua Kimmich pursuit

Arsenal and Liverpool have reportedly joined Barcelona in the race to sign Joshua Kimmich from Bundesliga club Bayern Munich.

According to a report by Spanish outlet MARCA, Barcelona will not be the only high-profile club pursuing Joshua Kimmich in the summer transfer window. The Bayern Munich midfielder is also a target for Arsenal and Liverpool. And the Bundesliga champions want at least €60 million to part ways with their prized asset.

Joshua Kimmich has been an extraordinary performer for Bayern Munich in the last eight years. The 28-year-old joined Bayern Munich from VfB Stuttgart as a promising prospect in July 2015. And after starting as a right-back, he has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Bundesliga.

The German international has been a pivotal figure for his club and country for several years. And he has turned out nearly 350 times for Bayern Munich, chipping in with 40 goals and 94 assists. But Kimmich’s long-term future at the Bundesliga club is uncertain, with Barcelona, Arsenal, and Liverpool interested in him. And Bayern might demand at least €60 million to sell him.

Barcelona will enter the market for a holding midfielder in the summer transfer window. That is because Sergio Busquets is departing from Spotify Camp Nou at the end of the ongoing season. And Kimmich has emerged as a viable target for Barcelona. But the Blaugrana might not have the funds to afford the 28-year-old. So a part-exchange deal might be on the cards.

Meanwhile, Arsenal will see Granit Xhaka departing from the Emirates in the summer transfer window. The Swiss midfielder wants to embark on a new adventure and will likely return to the Bundesliga, with Bayer Leverkusen his next destination. And securing Kimmich’s services will be a sensible decision from Arsenal.

As for Liverpool, the Merseyside club will lose James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as free agents. In addition, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson have blown hot and cold this season. So it behoves Liverpool to invest in a top-class midfielder, bringing Kimmich’s name into the picture.

Unlike Barcelona, Arsenal and Liverpool should be able to afford to pay €60 million to secure Kimmich’s services. But a price tag of €60 million seems unrealistic for a player of the German midfielder’s qualities. It will be interesting to see where the 28-year-old plies his trade next season.
