Liverpool are reportedly one of the clubs keen on signing 20-year-old French midfielder Andy Diouf this summer.

Andy Diouf is currently on loan at Swiss club FC Basel from French outfit Rennes. The 20-year-old has impressed with his performances at Basel, and Liverpool are keen to sign him at the end of the season as per Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness).

The highly-talented central midfielder will add control and creativity in the middle of the park. He has three goals and six assists to his name across all competitions and could be attracted to the idea of playing in the Premier League. Competing in English football could accelerate his development as he will be playing against elite talents in the Premier League.

Also, a world-class manager like Jurgen Klopp could play a key role in his development. It is no secret that Liverpool will have to improve their midfield options in the summer. The Reds are set to part ways with James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as free agents.

In addition, Arthur Melo will return to his parent club Juventus upon the expiry of his loan deal with Liverpool. The Merseyside club will have to bring in multiple central midfield reinforcements and Diouf could prove to be a quality long-term investment.

The 20-year-old is not the only midfielder on the Liverpool shortlist this summer. And the Reds are thought to be keeping tabs on the likes of Alexis Mac Allister, Mason Mount, Ryan Gravenberch, and several others as well.

It has been a disappointing season for Liverpool, and they are expected to miss out on Champions League qualification. The midfield has been a major problem for Liverpool this season, and Jurgen Klopp must look to address his problems in the middle of the park.

Apart from the impending departures, players like Jordan Henderson have regressed massively. So club cannot hope to use them as regular starters anymore. Liverpool will have to bring in multiple additions to summer, and Diouf could be one of the incomings. It will be interesting to see if Basel decide to sign the player permanently at the end of the season. Apparently, the Swiss outfit have the option to make the move permanent.
