Liverpool will consider launching the offensive for 22-year-old Feyenoord midfielder, a target for Manchester United, this summer.
According to a report by Football Transfers, Orkun Kokcu is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are closely monitoring the progress of the 22-year-old Feyenoord midfielder. Meanwhile, the Dutch club’s captain is also a target for the Reds’ bitter rival Manchester United.
Orkun Kokcu spent his formative years with several Dutch clubs. He passed through the academies at Olympia Haarlem, HFC EDO Haarlem, Stormvogels, FC Groningen, and Feyenoord. Meanwhile, the Turkish international represented the Netherlands in his youth career before turning out for the country of his origin at the senior level.
The 22-year-old made his Feyenoord debut as a 17-year-old in September 2018. Since then, Kokcu has come leaps and bounds, establishing himself as a pivotal figure and the club captain. And he enjoyed a phenomenal 2022/23 campaign, directly contributing to 17 goals (12 strikes, five assists) as Feyenoord won the Eredivisie this term.
But Kokcu’s long-term future at Feyenoord is uncertain, with a summer departure on the cards. And several high-profile clubs are keen on securing the young midfielder’s services this year. Liverpool and Manchester United are among his prospective suitors.
Manchester United will delve into the market for a midfield reinforcement in the summer transfer window. Erik ten Hag wants the Red Devils to sign an ideal long-term midfield partner for Casemiro. And Kokcu has emerged as a viable target for Manchester United. But the English giants face stiff competition from their bitter rivals in the race to sign the 22-year-old.
Kokcu has been on Liverpool’s radar for a long time. But the Reds have never acted upon their interest in the Turkish international. However, with James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain departing from Anfield in a few weeks, Liverpool will need multiple midfield reinforcements. And they have shown interest in several players, including Andy Diouf.
