Liverpool set to initiate discussions with Trent Alexander-Arnold over new long-term deal

Liverpool are hoping to agree on a new contract with 24-year-old English international Trent Alexander-Arnold soon.

A report from Football Transfers claims that Liverpool will look to tie down Trent Alexander-Arnold with a new contract until the summer of 2028. The English international currently has a contract at Anfield until the summer of 2025.

The 24-year-old is undoubtedly one of the best players of the club. So it is hardly a surprise that Liverpool want to secure his long-term future. Alexander-Arnold has four goals and eight assists to his name across all competitions this season, and he has proven himself to be an indispensable asset for the club since breaking into the first-team scene a few years ago.

He has helped Liverpool win every single trophy at the club level, and the 24-year-old is expected to lead the club in the coming seasons. Meanwhile, the English international has seen his market value soar to €65 million in the last few years.

Despite a poor start to the season, he has returned to his best once again and should be a key player for Liverpool going forward. Alexander-Arnold is more than just a defender, and he is one of the best passers in world football.

His ability to create goalscoring opportunities for his teammates is unparalleled. So Liverpool must look to hold on to an asset like him for as long as possible. The defender is still only 24 and is likely to improve further with coaching and experience.

A player like Alexander-Arnold is destined to develop into a superstar, and he will be hoping to guide Liverpool to more trophies in the coming seasons. It has been a disappointing season for Liverpool so far, and they are highly likely to miss out on UEFA Champions League qualification.

Meanwhile, Alexander-Arnold will be disappointed with his performances in the first half of the season. But he will look to build on his recent form and get back to his peak once again. And it is hardly surprising that the Reds want to hold on to their prized asset by opening talks over a new deal.

The 24-year-old has showcased in recent weeks that he can operate as a midfielder as well. So it will be interesting to see if Jurgen Klopp is willing to use him in a hybrid role next season. The Liverpool midfield is currently lacking in creativity, with James Milner set to join Brighton & Hove Albion. And using Alexander-Arnold in a hybrid role certainly adds a new dimension to the Liverpool side.
